Colin Farrell in Talks to Star in Remake of Civil War Classic ‘The Beguiled’

Via STACK

Colin Farrell is currently in negotiations to star in a remake of the Civil War classic The Beguiled, which originally featured Clint Eastwood. Released in 1971, the film centered on an injured Union soldier, John McBurney, held captive at a Confederate girls school, who succeeds in manipulating the lonely, vulnerable women and wins their hearts as they nurse him back to health. Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation) is set to direct. She is also writing the new adaptation of Thomas Cullinan's novel, which was the basis for the first film. Coppola is producing the picture along with her brother Roman, known for writing, producing and directing the well received series Mozart in the Jungle. The siblings are, of course, the children of legendary Godfather filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola. Starring as Martha Farnsworth, the school's headmistress, is Nicole Kidman. The cast also features Kirsten Dunst, whose recent work includes TV's Fargo, and popular actress Elle Fanning, currently seen in the thriller The Neon Demon. Farrell enjoyed something of a comeback last year, starring in the popular TV series True Detective and on the big screen in the critically acclaimed dramedy The Lobster. He is gaining momentum with three high profile films in the works. In addition to The Beguiled, Farrell's upcoming films include the Harry Potter prequel Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, out Nov. 18, and the drama The Killing of a Sacred Deer, co-starring Nicole Kidman. The Beguiled is expected to be released in theaters sometime next year. [cf]skyword_tracking_tag[/cf]
