Comic-Con Heist Comedy ‘Supercon’ In the Works

John Malkovich (Transformers: Dark of the Moon) and Mike Epps (TV's Uncle Buck), will headline the comic-con heist comedy Supercon, which is currently in the works. The film centers on a group of washed-up comic book artists and TV stars who earn their living by attending conventions. Things get interesting when the rag tag gang embark on a real life mission to seek justice by joining forces in a plot to rob a crooked promoter and overbearing former TV star. The film also stars Maggie Grace, best known for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Parts 1 & 2, Clancy Brown of TV's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Russell Peters (The Jungle Book), Ryan Kwanten (True Blood), and Donald Watkins, last seen in Free State of Jones. Nola describes the movie as a "geek culture crime comedy," adding that Grace's character, Allison, is "a cute, artsy comic artist making drawings for cash." Directing the movie is Zak Knutson, who is best known as a documentary filmmaker. He has helmed many docs over the past decade, including Marvel 75 Years: From Pulp to Pop! This project marks his feature film directorial debut, and he also wrote the screenplay—with co-writers and collaborators Andrew Sipes and Dana Snyder, who have teamed up on the animated TV series Trip Tank. Supercon is now filming in New Orleans. A release date has not yet been announced, but the movie is expected to hit theaters sometime in 2017. [cf]skyword_tracking_tag[/cf]
